1.
Who is credited with the discovery of the nucleus through the gold foil experiment?
- (A)बोहर (Bohr)Bohr
- (B)अर्नेस्ट रदरफोर्ड (Ernest Rutherford)Ernest Rutherford
- (C)जॉन डाल्टन (John Dalton)John Dalton
- (D)लेवोजियर (Lavoisier)Lavoisier
Show answer and explanation
Answer: (B)
(Ernest Rutherford)
Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford discovered the atomic nucleus through his gold foil (alpha particle scattering) experiment in 1911.
2.
Which of the following chemical reactions does not represent a balanced equation?
- (A)4Fe + 3H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 2H₂
- (B)2Fe + 3H₂O → Fe₂O₃ + 3H₂
- (C)3Fe + 4H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 4H₂
- (D)Fe + H₂O → FeO + H₂
Show answer and explanation
Answer: (A)
4Fe + 3H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 2H₂
In 4Fe + 3H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 2H₂ there are 4 Fe on the left but 3 on the right, and 3 H₂O gives 6 H but 2H₂ has 4 H, so it is unbalanced. The correct form is 3Fe + 4H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 4H₂.
3.
Which of the following options correctly represents a compound formed by ionic bonding?
- (A)H₂O
- (B)CO₂
- (C)NaCl
- (D)NH3
Show answer and explanation
Answer: (C)
NaCl
NaCl is formed by transfer of an electron from sodium to chlorine, so it is ionic. H₂O, CO₂ and NH₃ are covalent compounds.
