पॉल एर्लिक को 1908 का चिकित्सा नोबेल (एली मेचनिकोव के साथ) प्रतिरक्षा पर कार्य के लिए मिला, जिसने प्रतिरक्षा विज्ञान (इम्यूनोलॉजी) का सैद्धांतिक आधार तैयार किया। उनकी खोज सैल्वार्सन थी, पेनिसिलिन नहीं।

Paul Ehrlich shared the 1908 Nobel Prize in Medicine (with Élie Metchnikoff) for his work on immunity, which laid the theoretical basis for immunology (side-chain theory). Salvarsan, not penicillin, was his drug.

सामान्य सर्दी-जुकाम मुख्यतः राइनोवायरस से होता है, जो नाक और गले (ऊपरी श्वसन तंत्र) में ही संक्रमण करता है, इसलिए इसे शायद ही निचले श्वसन तंत्र का संक्रमण माना जाता है।

The common cold is mainly caused by rhinoviruses, which replicate in the cooler nasal passages and throat, i.e. the upper respiratory tract, so it is rarely a lower respiratory tract infection.
